On Friday 20, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 October the Frisian Chamber Orchestra performed a series of concerts named Mourning and Consolation. A musical highlight during these concerts was the solo performance of cello player Wytske Holtrop in Prayer for Cello and Orchestra by Ernest Bloch en Kol Nidrei by Max Bruch. Another musical statement was the première of symphony MH17 by Renilde Duif. In this symphony, the composer has translated the attack on the commercial airliner above the Ukraine into music. From takeoff to the actual cars, to bringing the bodies of the victims back home and the ceremony at Eindhoven Airport. The audience – among whom were relatives of the victims – was very much impressed by the musical interpretation of this dramatic event.
